Net Zero CO2 Home Energy Challenge – Starts in 2 Weeks

To celebrate October Energy Awareness Month, MeterLeader is launching the Net Zero CO2 Home Energy Challenge. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), “a major worldwide push to increase energy efficiency is an essential part of getting to Net Zero by 2050, resulting in the annual rate of energy intensity improvements averaging 4% to 2030 – about three-times the average rate achieved over the last two decades.” These are ambitious goals ahead of us, so let’s get started today by joining the Challenge.

During this 3 month challenge, we’ll help you track your hourly home energy usage, see your usage compared to others living close by and in other states, and provide you with tips and resources to help you reduce your energy usage and carbon emissions. Better yet, those who reduce their carbon emissions will get an opportunity to win prizes.

Challenge Details

Starts: October 1 – December 31, 2022

Individual Goal: MeterLeader is challenging residents in California, New York, Maryland, Washington, Illinois, and Florida who are PG&E, SCE, SoCalGas, LADWP, SDG&E, ConEd, BG&E, PSE, ComEd, and/or FPL customers to reduce carbon emissions stemming from your home energy use (electricity AND natural gas) from October 1 through December 31, 2022 by at least 10%.

Group Goal: Achieve a total of 5,000 pounds of carbon emission reductions as a collective group. This is the equivalent of carbon sequestered by about 3 acres of US forests in one year!

Prizes: 3 individual winners will be awarded a $100 Patagonia gift card based on a lottery system – for every 1% of carbon emissions you reduce you receive a lottery entry.

Eligibility: Must be a primary account holder of an active residential PG&E, SCE, SoCalGas, LADWP, SDG&E, ConEd, BG&E, PSE, ComEd, and/or FPL electric or electric and gas account for at least 1 year. See complete Challenge Rules here

How It Works

MeterLeader is an online platform that gamifies saving energy at home by integrating real-time utility data and behavior science principles. We are like a Fitbit Challenge, but instead of steps we measure kWh, therm, and carbon emission reductions. Learn more about how MeterLeader works.
