USGBC-LA, in partnership with MeterLeader, is inviting LASER members to join a new and exciting no-cost employee engagement initiative that we’ve developed specifically for LASER members and their employees, starting on October 1, 2022.
The Problem
LASER Companies have set ambitious ESG goals to reduce their carbon emissions across their operations, however in the Post-Covid world, most companies now have employees working from home. This new reality is not being properly addressed in today’s ESG reporting. Furthermore, approximately 20% of total US carbon emissions come from homes.
The Solution
To help address this new reality, USGBC-LA has partnered with MeterLeader, a USGBC Net Zero Accelerator and Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator startup, to create a LASER Home Energy Challenge Pilot.
The MeterLeader Platform gamifies saving energy in homes by using real-time utility and proven behavioral science principles. MeterLeader helps companies engage with their employees to reduce carbon emissions at home, and enables those companies to accurately report those reductions for ESG purposes. MeterLeader is like a Fitbit corporate wellness program, but instead of steps, they measure kWh, therm, and carbon emission reductions.
LASER Home Energy Challenge
The goal of the LASER Home Energy Challenge is to motivate employees to adopt energy efficient behaviors and equipment at home, thereby reducing carbon emissions and saving them money on utility bills.
Starts: October 1 – November 30, 2022
Individual Goal: USGBC-LA is challenging employees who are LADWP, SoCal Edison, SoCal Gas, and SDG&E customers to reduce carbon emissions stemming from their home energy use (electricity AND natural gas) from October 1 through November 30, 2022 by at least 10%.
Group Goal: We are also challenging everyone to achieve the group goal of 30,000 pounds of CO2 reductions. This is the equivalent of carbon sequestered by about 16 acres of US forests in one year!
Prizes: The Top 5 participants who reduce their home energy-related carbon emissions by the greatest percentage will win prizes and another 5 winners will be awarded prizes based on a lottery system. Every 1% of CO2 savings gets a lottery entry. Prizes TBD.
Eligibility: Must be a primary account holder of an active residential Los Angeles Department of Power and Water (LADWP), Southern California Edison (SCE), Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), and/or San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) electric or electric/gas account for at least 1 year. See complete Challenge Rules here.
